The 5th National Chinese Cross- Talk Competition 2010

HOORAY! Yesterday, I managed to snag a 3rd place at the 2010 National Chinese Cross- Talk competition's grand finals. There were about 40 over teams participating in this competition. I felt that this was a glorious achievement.

The subject of my cross talk was " I Love My School!". In the end, my friend, G F, and I were awarded each a beautiful golden trophy.

That's not all! My Mother Tongue Teacher also informed me that G F and I were requested to perform our famous cross talk at many other events. So looks like I'll be quite busy now!

P. S. - Guess what? Two weeks later, my school is hosting a sleepover at the Underwater World. It will a wonderful experience!!!

Trip to Taiwan

Howdy! This June holidays, I went to Taiwan. Where EXACTLY did I go? I went to Taipei and Taichung. One thing about Taiwan is that there was were where bubble tea first originated!

HIGHLIGHTS:

NIGHT MARKETS- There are a lot of night markets in Tawan. But in Taiwan's night markets, they sell things which you can't find in Singapore night markets. For example, REALLY COLD ice creams that won't melt until a very long period of time.

BUBBLE TEA- The bubble tea sold in Taiwan is really DELICIOUS! YUM... The bubble tea vendors there give a lot of tapioca pearls and very little ice, a lot of tea and a very large cup. ( Of course, you have to pay more. )

Stay tuned for more of my June holidays.
NEXT STOP- Hong Kong

The June Holidays- Siem Reap, Cambodia

This June, I will be going to Siem Reap, Cambodia for my first- ever exchange programme! Cambodia, here I come!

SIEM REAP, CAMBODIA
Siem Reap city is the capital of Siem Reap Province, Cambodia.

It is the gateway city for the nearby ANGKOR WAT.

The name Siem Reap means " The defeat of Siam ( Today's Thailand. )

Siem Reap was one of the main border crossing from Cambodia to Thailand.

The Angkor Wat temples Siem Reap are one of the very famous tourist attractions in the world.

Today, Siem Reap is Cambodia's fastest growing City.

Remember these useful info. Who knows, you could be going to Siem Reap sooner or later...

Movie Review

DIARY OF A WIMPY KID The Movie

Recently, I went to the cinemas to watch the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid movie. It was a really hilarious movie! Most of the jokes in the movie were about disgusting things like snot and boogers. There were very funny at first but after a while, they became boring. Some parts of the movie was funny and comical, while others were not. The part when Greg tries to be in the wrestling team was my favourite part of the movie. The part where Rowley and Greg go to the woods during Halloween was the most predictable ( and my least favourite ) part of the movie.

RATINGS: 3/5 " Watch it, you may like it! "

Birthday Surprise - Universal Studio Singapore

Before we start of, I just like to tell you that the main places in Universal Studios Singapore™ are Far Far Away™, The Lost World™, Ancient Egypt, Hollywood, New York, Sci- Fi City and Madagascar™!

Just to highlight some of the fun and thrilling ( and maybe scary ) rides in Universal Studios Singapore ™:

ENCHANTED AIRWAYS – Located at Far Far Away™, this roller coaster ride will send you going high up, and going right down at top speed. There are a lot of heart- stopping drops in this ride, but compared to all the other roller coaster rides in Universal Studios Singapore ™, this one is the least scary.

FEAR FACTOR- 3/5

QUICK MESSAGE- After going to that wild roller coaster ride, I would want something to munch on. If you do too, well, you are in for a treat! Drop by at Friar's™ to feast on a unique variety of hot and cold sandwich wraps. Yummy…

RAPIDS ADVENTURE- Enter a time where dinosaurs ruled the world! Yes… This is the Lost World. Hop on one of the Jurassic Rafts™. ( Things will get quite WET AND WILD, so please bring along a raincoat.) At first, tings will be okay. You will get to look at the stegosaurus too. But as things get more quiet, you will see BROKEN WINDOWS, ESCAPED DINOSAURS, and you will also hear strange growling! You will then enter a dark, dark tunnel, where you will be greeted with EXTREME DARKNESS. I got pretty scared when I saw a dinosaur breaking free of the cage it was trapped in. Then, you will arrive at a large elevator… ROAR! Suddenly, you will meet a T Rex trying to eat you. Without any warning… SPLASH! The raft will tumble down and you will land at the Stegosaurus Springs. The ride ends.

FEAR FACTOR- 2/5

ATTENTION: If you want any prehistoric souvenirs, then you MUST come to JURASSIC OUTFITTERS! Here, we sell key artefacts from Jurassic Park™, along with themed hats, Dino Shirts, Dino Picture Frames and more! GROWL!!!

REVENGE OF THE MUMMY ™- Find the Book Of The Living! Ride the HOT and SCARY roller coaster ride! Plunge into a whole lot of DARKNESS as you face warrior mummies on a psychological thrill ride! Feel the burning heat as the whole place gets set on fire too. Finally, scream your lungs out as the roller coaster does a heart- stopping drop. Ha… Ha…

FEAR FACTOR- 4/5

FOODIES: Want more food? Walk down to the Oasis Spice CAFÉ™ and sample Egyptian specialties flavoured with Mediterranean, Turkish, Lebanese and Indian spices.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA™ HUMAN (Red Track)
A really thrilling, scary and wonderful thrill ride, zooming at speeds of 100 km/h! This seated coaster narrowly avoids collisions as it twists, turns and propels you over 12 storeys into the air. When the ride finished, I could feel blood gushing all the way to my feet. I also felt like as if my legs had turned into wobbly jelly.

Fear Factor: 5/5

PICTURE MOMENT- I also took some snapshots with Po The Panda™ and The Woody Woodpecker™!

FUNNY HATS- The Brown Derby™ has them all! Ranging from a joker’s hat to a king’s, these hats are splendid for the young and old (but young at heart)!

There are many more amazing rides, shows and attractions at Universal Studios Singapore™! Go there now and have fun for the whole day.

Not to mention, you MUST also go to Lights, Camera, Action!™, where you will see how the special effects are made. It’s a mind- blowing setting done by Steven Spielberg.

Field Trip To Kampong Glam

Three days ago, I went on a field trip to Kampong Glam. ( Kampong Glam was the home of the Malay Royalty before the time of Raffles.) When I reached Kampong Glam, I found out that Kampong Glam actually takes its name from the Glam ( melaleuca leucadendron ) trees.

The Bugis and Malays extracted oil from the leaves of the Glam trees for medcine and also to make their ships watertight. The bark was used to caulk ships. The tour guide also told us that tombstone carving and blacksmith were unique traditional trades. I even went to the graveyard.

Other than the origin of the name and the traditional trades, there were also a lot of mosques in Kampong Glam. I stepped into the Masjid Sultan ( Sultan Mosque ) with no shoes and went to learn more.

It was SUPER quiet in the mosque. Even the tour guide had to keep his voice low when talking in the mosque. ( FACT: the Sultan Mosque can accommodate up to 5000 Muslims!

Lastly, I visited a school in Arab Street. The school was called the Alsagoff Arab School. It was built in the early 1912. It was named after a wealthy Arab merchant and a philanthropist.

The tour finally ended and I boarded the school bus. I hope that I can go on such trips again.

Singapore is one hot country

Wow, right now, I'm sweating all over my body as it's 37 degrees Celsius here in Singapore, the famous but TOO TROPICAL country. Why doesn't it snow here? And just when there isn't much sun, it starts to rain heavily. What I would like now is one cup of ICE COLD GREEN TEA, and that the sun sets quickly.

Chinese New Year

Hello reader. Finally, we have come to the first day of CNY. I wonder how much MORE money there will be in my bank account... Anyway, there are a lot of legends about Chinese New Year. Some say it was because of the death of a horrible monster, some say it was because of a monk.
I will NEVER, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ( OK, I'll stop ) know the reason for CNY. And with that, I like to wish you a happy Lunar New Year! (To anyone that celebrates it.)

SUBWAY REVIEW

I do not know about you, reader, but I like to eat SUBWAY's sandwiches. ( Their turkey breast is the nicest! ) Anyway, I bet you know that all the Subway Stalls are owned by the franchisees, right? BUT some Subway franchisees are very stingy. Here are the reviews of the Subway stalls I've lunched in:

Juncti8n: Good. At least they let you take the straws and drink cover YOURSELF.

Thomson Plaza: OK. The staff are friendly ( during the time I lunched there! I don't know
whether they are still friendly NOW) BUT the drink covers and straws are all prepared nicely.
You can only have ONE straw and ONE drink cover for ONE meal.

Yeah Yeah! I know. That's too small a number for the number of Subway stalls I have lunched in, right????

BYE!

P.S. Oh yeah, if you want to advertise your products or info or your website to others, don't do it HERE!

Sincerly,

Book Review

Just before we start, I just like to announce to you that CW won a reunion dinner worth $1,200! She was elated.

Anyway, today for my book review, let me tell you the books that I like:

Geronimo Stilton
Mr Midnight
Goosebumps
Beast Quest

Of course there are a lot of other more books that I like. So now, lets look at the books that I read.

Mr Midnight # 62 - The Tomb Of Dr Theseus
By Jim Aitchinson A.K.A James Lee

Story: Four school kids explore and they end up finding a tomb of a dead man.

To be honest, I feel that some of MM books are not scary at all, but this particular MM book is scary. I like the MM books because they are full of suspense and good phrases to describe fear. To those readers that have not read this book, read it now!

Geronimo Stilton - The kingdom Of Fantasy
By Edizioni Piemme A.K.A Geronimo Stilton

Story: Mouse Geronimo Stilton finds himself in an enchanted land, where he becomes a knight, given the mission to save a damsel in distress.

I enjoy reading the G. S. books as they are full of humor and good vocab. IF there was a place like New Mouse City, I would fly there now!

Goosebumps Horrorland - Revenge Of The Living Dummy
By RL Stine

Story: All-time horror favourite Slappy The Dummy returns to turn Carly Beth into a slave.

The Goosebumps books really make me shiver in fear. I like reading the Goosebumps books because there is both humor AND horror in them. I like both Monster Blood and Slappy, the two famous Goosebumps characters/things.

Beast Quest - Bumper Edition #5
By Adam Blade

Story: This time, Tom, Avantia's hero has to fight a Winged Terror.

That's all, folks!

FROM THE DESK OF GEORGE RING
I can really imagine Tom fighting the Beasts. I like the Beast Quest books as they have good phrases in them.

Lovely Doughnuts and Bread

Once again, hello reader. January has come to an end so now it's FEBRUARY! Which means CNY is coming soon. And most of all, Valentine's Day falls on the same day as CNY. So bread makers like Four Leaves and donut makers like Donut Empire are racking their brains to make a Valentine day bun/donut or a CNY bun/donut. Or maybe a CNY AND a Valentine bun/donut!

Restraunts will also be thinking, what sort of dinner should we serve? A candlelight dinner? A reunion dinner? Or a candlelight reunion dinner!

And finnaly, we have come to the end of today's post.

True that.

New Year Resolutions

Hello, readers. It has been one month since I logged in to type out a new post. The computer has been acting CRAZY!!! Anyway, since it's already the New Year, I've started writing my new year resolution! But it's still not completed. I've only written two things.

1. To NOT be overweight and be in SHAPE.
( But hey, I'm already in SHAPE. ROUND is a SHAPE! )

2. FINISH my New Year's Resolution.

Also, I'm going to be 10 this year, so that means I'm now in Primary 4. I really hope I'll pass my NAPFA test this year. I also hope that I get better results this year for my exams.

Now if you excuse me, I'd like to complete my list of New Year Resolutions!!!!
